We have the ability to start fresh no matter which day of the year we’re in, but there’s something special about the start of a new year—filled with the magic of new possibilities and opportunities ahead.

My intention with this article is to provide you with practical information, some of my favourite New Year’s quotes and prompts for self-reflection that you can use to head into 2022 feeling inspired, motivated and prepared for this new beginning.

15 Of The Most Attainable New Year Resolution Ideas For A Healthier & Happier Life

How many times have we made that new year resolution list and actually stuck to it? I am definitely guilty of letting my high-achieving resolutions fall by the wayside.

So now I believe in starting simple and then you can build on from there. Also, it’s not necessary to have a list so long it’s running out the front door.

The last thing you want to do is overwhelm yourself. This list feels inspiring, yet each one is very much attainable.

  1. Read more books.

Honestly, the best way to grow is through reading. Challenge yourself to read at least one book per month. Maybe even create a book club with a few friends so you can get together and discuss it. This is also a great way to stay accountable.

  1. Cook something different every week.

Eating healthier is usually at the top of everyone’s list come the new year. Although that is important, it’s also good to try to eat a wider variety of foods. It can be so easy to get stuck eating the same thing, even if it’s already healthy. Try cooking something different every week and even get the kids/ teens to help with some ideas. Might even be worth investing in a lovely new cookbook for inspiration.

  1. Drink less alcohol.

Yes yes I know, much easier said than done, but as you get older you realise just how important this one is. Drinking less alcohol can help to improve your mood, sleep, skin and immune system. Also, that money can then be allocated towards something else your heart desires.

  1. Budget better.

Learn to budget like a boss. This is one resolution that will benefit you so much in the future. Learning to save and budget better is a skill everyone should learn.  Apps like Money Dashboard and Koody can help you do this as painlessly as possible and make it fun to do!

  1. Join a club.

Starting a new hobby is great, but joining a club will help you meet new people in the process of starting something new. Sites like Meetup can assist you in finding a group of people with similar interests and hobbies. There’s also the option of creating digital meetups too. During the current time we are living in, human connection has been so limited so it’s important to make the effort.

  1. Book your doctors screenings.

Schedule these appointments at the beginning of the year and then you know they are in your calendar. Life tends to get crazy and then these are usually the things that get pushed out first. Contact your primary care provider, and ask which screenings (e.g., mammogram, colonoscopy) you’re due for. Schedule those in, then move on to the dentist, etc.

  1. Become an indoor plant parent.

There is something so magical about indoor plants. I love adorning my space with all the green and it makes my space feel so much more peaceful. Research actually shows that just the presence of indoor plants can lower human stress levels, and one study found that actively caring for plants calmed the autonomic nervous system and lowered blood pressure. With benefits such as these, I hope you’re running to the nearest nursery.

  1. Quit smoking.

I don’t think I need to tell you how bad smoking is, but if you’ve been wanting to quit let 2022 be your year! Let this be your encouragement that you can do it!

  1. Stairs it up.

If there’s an option to take the stairs or the lift, I choose the stairs every time. This is a great way to get those extra steps in and a cardio boost which will naturally increase your energy levels. Give it a go!

  1. Hydrate. Hydrate. Hydrate.

Water is literally life. We are made up of mostly water so we have to make sure that we are replenishing ourselves daily. You don’t want to overdo it but make sure you are drinking enough for your size and lifestyle.

  1. Kickstart a new vocation.

If 2022 feels like the year to follow your heart in a new direction or test the waters with a side hustle, then do it! Forever started as a way for me to make extra income and then it turned into a full-on business. Looking to start an online business? Read my blog here

  1. Volunteer more.

Giving back is paramount in this world. Find a cause or charity you’re passionate about and make time to volunteer there regularly.

  1. Upcycle your wardrobe.

According to Circular Online, the UK is the fourth largest textile waste producer in the world, producing 206,456 tonnes of textile waste in a year. By upcycling our clothes, we can help tackle this issue by taking our old and shabby clothes and giving them a new creative look and feel. This will not only help the planet, but it can also have an impact on how we view our clothes and is extremely economical.

  1. Invest in your skincare routine.

Looking after your skin is the ultimate self-care practice. I have been using Infinite By Forever for a long time now and absolutely love the way it makes my skin feel. What we feed our skin matters so be intentional with what you’re putting on it.

  1. Walk more.

This is literally the best low-impact exercise out there. It’s also so good for your mental health. Make an effort to go on more walks and spend time in nature—complete food for the soul.

22 Journal Prompts For Self Reflection And A New Year

Natalie Heeley
Natalie Heeley
Natalie Heeley

At the end of each year, I love to set aside some time to sit down and reflect on the year that’s passed.

Doing this exercise is so valuable in helping me understand what my challenges were, where I’ve grown, where I can improve, what my wins were and where I had the most growth.

I came across these powerful and thought-provoking journal prompts on the Will Frolic For Food blog and just had to share! I’ll definitely be adding these to practice.

Don’t take too long on each question, just answer from your intuition and allow wit to flow—you’ll be surprised as to what comes through.

Get yourself a beautiful journal to write in, pour a pot of tea and get going.

  1. If the energy of your past year could be encapsulated by one word, what would that word be?
  1. What were your big wins this year?
  1. What were your small wins this year?
  1. What were your challenges this year?
  1. For every challenge on your list, write down 1 (or more) lessons, tools, or gifts your challenges gave you this year.
  1. What do you need to shed or leave behind from this past year?
  1. Who were the most integral people in your life this past year?
  1. How did these people support you, teach you or help you to grow?
  1. Regarding physical health, what health, wellness and fitness practices were most beneficial or enjoyable for you this year?
  1. What health, wellness and fitness practices were the most challenging or perhaps detrimental?
  1. With that in mind, what are your health goals for this coming year?
  1. Regarding financial health, what practices (if any) did you implement in the past year that were of benefit?
  1. What financial practices will you start (or continue) in the coming year to grow wealth and become financially stable?
  1. What are your overall financial goals for this coming year?
  1. What are your career or vocation goals for this coming year?
  1. What are your personal goals or intentions for this coming year?
  1. Keeping these goals in mind, what is one over-arching intention you would like to set for this coming year?
  1. What is one small thing you are manifesting for this coming year? Write the details of this in your journal.
  1. What is one big thing you are manifesting for this coming year? Make it something realistic to manifest within 6-12 months. Write the details of this in your journal.
  1. What are 4 ways you will push yourself out of your comfort zone this year?
  1. At the end of this coming year — when you look back at your life over the last 12 months — what is the ONE thing you want to have accomplished or maintained a commitment to?
  1. Brainstorm 10-20 words that encapsulate the energy that you’re calling into your coming year. Reflect on those words and then choose one word that reflects the overall intention you’d like to set for this coming year. This is your “word of the year.”

Ready To Call In An Exceptional New Year?

I think we’re all feeling ready to take a break, reflect and set our intentions for the new year to come. It’s been a strange last 2 years and I think we’re all hoping for a more ‘normal’ 2022.

As I’ve said before, it may feel like so much is out of our control but there is also so much that we can take control of, so let’s focus on that.

Let’s keep moving forward, living life and reaching for our dreams. Never settle for less and know that you are worth it!

I hope this article has inspired you for the new year ahead and given you some valuable food for thought.

Wishing you and yours a wonderful and blessed festive season.

29 Tips On How To Build Confidence In Kids

Confidence in kids is extremely vital to their healthy self-development. With how the world currently is, it seems that this is something that has taken a detrimental knock on many children.

If we had thought being a kid was tough in the age of the internet (cyber-bullying/ constant comparison), try that on with a pandemic on top (and a rise in mental health issues).

A confident child with good self-esteem will be better equipped to face the ins and outs of everyday life — they would know how to stand up for themselves, be responsible, take ownership, deal with frustration and challenges, as well as positive and negative emotions.

Us parents play an important role in helping to build and instil this confidence within these young souls. It’s up to us to be very intentional with how we can help them.

In this article, I look at the top tips on how to build confidence in kids so that they can thrive in life regardless of what’s happening in the world.

30 Tips On How To Build Confidence In Kids During A Pandemic

Read ’23 Reasons Why Network Marketing is the Biz To Be In Right Now’ here.

30 Tips On How To Build Self-Confidence In Kids

1. Show Your Love Unconditionally

Confidence In Kids

This may seem obvious, but it’s the most important. Your child needs to know that you love them no matter what.

Whether they win or lose that sports match, get good grades or not, or even when you may be upset with them.

Unconditional love builds a strong foundation for a confident child.

The way our kids believe we see them has a profound impact on the way they see themselves. So the role we play here is extremely important.

2. Provide Positive Feedback And Praise

Children need to receive praise and positive feedback — what you as a parent think has an impact on how they measure their worth and achievements.

Don’t go and praise them for everything, be genuine with what you say. If they fail at something or struggle with a particular skill, praise the effort, but don’t be disingenuous with praising the results.

Encourage them that it’s okay to not be able to do everything perfectly and that some things take time and practise. Or they can move on altogether if it’s not for them.

3. Help Them Set Goals

Self-confidence in kids will increase when you help them set realistic goals. When a child has a dream, you want to be able to support them in making it a possibility in whatever way you can, even if it may seem ridiculous to you.

Getting them to share their goals, large and small, and helping them achieve them will help make them feel strong and capable.

Turn their desires into actionable goals by encouraging them to make a list of things they’d like to achieve. Then, practise breaking down these longer-term goals into practical benchmarks.

You’ll be validating their interests and helping them learn the skills they need to attain their goals throughout life.

4. Model Self-love And Positive Self-talk

The way your kids will love and speak to themselves will be based on how you love and speak to yourself.

You don’t realise it but kids pick up on everything and model that behaviour. So speak to yourself with kindness and love. Celebrate yourself when there’s personal success and share it with them.

5. Give Them Age-appropriate Tasks And Responsibilities

A great way to boost confidence in kids is by giving them age-appropriate responsibilities and chores to do as they will feel they are making a valuable contribution and that they are needed.

This could include tasks such as making the bed, feeding the pets, setting the table, folding clothes, picking up toys, fetching siblings etc.

Confidence In Kids

6. Teach Resilience And That Failure Is Normal

It’s totally normal to want to protect your kids from failure. There’s nothing worse than seeing your child sad or disappointed, but failure builds resilience and is how they learn.

Falling short on a goal or not getting something 100% right will help them realise that the world won’t end if this happens.

Show them how they can use these experiences as lessons and talk about what steps they could possibly take next time.

7. Instil Independence And Adventure

Kids who are confident will be excited to try new things without fearing that they may fail.

A great way to do this for younger kids can be by baking or cooking together and giving them most of the responsibility while you supervise.

Encourage your kids to try new things and go new places. Day trips and outings, new hobbies, holidays and trips with mates or schoolmates can all expand your kids’ horizons and build confidence in their ability to handle new situations.

8. Encourage Physical Activities And Sports

Movement is not only important because of the health benefits, but also because it can help kids learn to recognise their strengths and weaknesses (which they’ll accept or strengthen), manage defeat, expand their group of mates and learn how to work in a team.

This will also help them stay fit and learn to appreciate and value their bodies.

Encourage them to find a physical activity that they really enjoy, don’t push an activity on them because it’s what you want them to do.

9. Support Their Passions

Confidence In Kids

Exploring their own interests can help kids develop a sense of identity, which is essential to building confidence.

And as they see their talents grow, this will also give them a huge confidence and self-esteem boost

Make sure as the parent you respect and encourage your child’s interests — even if it doesn’t necessarily interest you.

10. Think Before You Compliment

We know that kids need loads of encouragement, especially when they’re doing things for the first time like learning to walk or draw.

It’s important to be very intentional with the praise we give, as children can get very used to hearing “well done” or “nice work” that they will then struggle to know when their accomplishments are really worth celebrating.

Also, it’s not necessary to give praise when they do something they’re supposed to do like brushing their teeth or putting their clothes in the wash, just saying “thank you” is enough.

Try to offer specific feedback: Instead of saying that your kid’s drawing is beautiful, maybe point out their brilliant use of colours.

11. Let Them Make Age-Appropriate Decisions

Confidence in kids gets built when you allow them the chance to make choices from a young age.

Let them make age-appropriate decisions like what to wear, what to eat for breakfast, what game to play or colour to use, where to go on an outing etc.

12. Encourage Them To Try New Things

Encourage your kids to try new things. It’s healthy for kids to diversify instead of always focusing their energy on what they already know or do well at.

Attaining new skills makes kids feel capable and confident that they can do whatever comes their way.

13. Practice Positive Self-Talk With Them

This is a good tip for us adults too!

Both adults and kids can so easily get caught up in the negative and damaging self-talk: “I can’t do this,” or, “I’m terrible at __________,” or, “What is wrong with me?”

Try one of these growth mindset affirmations in the image for encouragement.

Confidence In Kids

14. Promote Problem Solving

Encourage your kids to problem-solve instead of always giving them the answer.

Critical thinking is so useful especially in giving a child a sense of confidence to know they can work things out on their own.

This is just about creating space for this, if they need your help you can step in.

15. Set Rules And Be Consistent

First and foremost you are the parent, not a best friend. It’s important that you create structure and healthy boundaries for your kids.

Learning and following rules give kids a feeling of safety and confidence. Every family and home will have different rules and these will change over time based on their age.

16. Encourage Them To Get Involved In Helping Others

Boost confidence in kids by encouraging them to help others. The opportunity of helping others is something kids are naturally drawn to whether it’s helping mum in the kitchen or taking biscuits to an old age home.

17. Model And Work On Your Own Confidence

As we already know, our kids model us, so it’s important to focus on improving your own confidence.

Start by making positive comments about yourself and others in your kid’s presence.

18. Join In On Their Play

Joining in on your kid’s play or activity communicates that they are important to you and worth your time.

Allow your kids to choose the activity, as well as lead it.

This gives them autonomy and when they see you engaged and enjoying the activity this will bring them joy and a sense of accomplishment.

19. Don’t Get Upset About Mistakes

It’s important that kids know that everyone makes mistakes and it’s how they learn from them that really matters.

People who are confident don’t let the setbacks or failures get them down, they move forward regardless taking in each lesson.

20. Embrace Imperfection

Perfectionism is something many adults still battle with, that’s why it’s vital for us to teach our kids early on that it’s completely unrealistic.

Help your kids to understand that what they see on TV, magazines, or on social media, is not always a real representation of how things really are.

The impression that others are always happy, successful, and perfectly dressed is a fantasy and an adverse one at that.

Instead, remind them that as human’s we are imperfectly perfect and that’s enough.

21. Encourage Them To Express Their Feelings

Encourage your kids to express their feelings — both positive and negative emotions — help them talk through these emotions and navigate them in a healthy way.

22. Address Them By Their Name

When looking at how to build confidence in kids, a simple way to communicate that they’re important is by addressing them by their name in a friendly way (especially with kind eye contact).

23. Make Time For Them That Has Your Undivided Attention

This is essential to making your kids feel valued and confident.

Make sure you set aside time for them where you can be 100% present.

Kids know when you’re not completely there and your mind is elsewhere.

Put away any distractions like electronics and make sure they are getting your undivided attention.

Confidence In Kids

24. Speak Positively To Others About Them And Let Them Overhear

Another easy way to boost your kid’s confidence is to inadvertently let them hear you sing their praises to others on their accomplishments or efforts.

25. Don’t Ever Compare Them To Others

This is a big no-no! Absolutely avoid comparing kids to their siblings, friends or classmates (basically anyone).

Comparisons can be extremely detrimental and damaging on children and can cause them to doubt themselves, believe that they can’t please you or meet your expectations, and ultimately lose total confidence in who they are.

26. Surround Them With People Who Are Positive And Confident

Like the old adage goes “you are the company you keep” could not be more true.

You want to make sure that your kids are surrounded by people who are positive and confident as this will have an impact on them.

It’s also important that these people are uplifting and encouraging so that they can add to the growth and vibrancy of their life.

27. Ask Them For Their Advice Or Opinion

A powerful way to build confidence in kids is by asking them for their advice or opinions on situations that are age-appropriate for them

This shows them that even adults don’t always have all the answers and that it’s okay to ask for help when you need it.

Confidence In Kids

28. Create A Wall Of Fame To Acknowledge Their Achievements

This is such a beautiful way to express your admiration and appreciation for your kids’ accomplishments.

Having a “Wall of Fame” can be an excellent tool for giving kids that confidence boost in moments of self-doubt.

It could showcase anything from grades, drawings, trophies, certificates, art projects, photos of certain accomplishments etc.

29. Show Them Physical Affection

Physical touch and affection is a vital love language and is essential to making children feel joyful and confident.

This could be anything from high fives, back pats, hair tousles, hugs, shoulder/ hand squeezes etc. to show that they are loved, cared and valued.

The Future Needs Confident Kids

We are responsible for shaping the next generation. Confidence in kids is needed now more than ever, especially with how different the world now is that they are growing up in.

As parents, we need to do our best in how we help develop our kid’s confidence (as well as our own)! The way we see ourselves is how they see us too.

I hope this article served you and provided you with some helpful tips on how to instil confidence in your kid.

When your audience becomes your channel of distribution through shares, this is when you know you’re doing it right!

Whether it’s resharing a post to an Instagram story or tagging a friend in a Facebook post or retweeting something to their audience, content that provides value and is relevant and visually attractive is likely to receive high engagement and shares.

How To Create A Social Media Strategy In 8 Easy Steps

Step 1: Set Your Objectives

In order to know which channels to use and what content to create you have to first determine your business objectives i.e what do you want your social media marketing to achieve?

Take some time to write out a list of everything you want to achieve out of your social media marketing, and then prioritise them in terms of value for your business.

Once you know what your core objectives are you can proceed with the next steps.

Step 2: Outline Your Audience

Now that you know why you’re using social media, it’s important to also get clear on who you’re trying to reach. This will help to give you a better understanding of which social channels will be most effective for your objectives.

For example, your target audience may be women aged 30 – 60 which means you may use Facebook to engage with them more instead of using a platform like TikTok.

Outline your audience demographic in as much detail as possible: age, gender, location, hobbies, interests, challenges they face, where they hang out, what brands they like etc.

By determining these characteristics you will be able to make sure you use the most suited social platform to reach them on! You will also be catering your content to best reach your objectives!

How To Use Social Media For Marketing

Step 3: Do Market Research

Analysing your competitors’ social media marketing activity is an important and valuable part of your strategy when looking at how to use social media for marketing.

This is not about copying or replicating what they do!

You are merely gaining perspective so you have a better idea of what you should be doing.

Have a look at:

  • Which platforms they’re most active on
  • What kind of content they publish
  • How much average engagement they get
  • What hashtags they use
  • What tone of voice they use
  • What kind of conversations they have with their audience
  • What call to action they promote etc.

By taking the time to do a social media marketing analysis you will put yourself in a much better position when it comes to deciding which platforms are best for your audience and objectives.

It will also help you get to know and understand your target audience’s behaviour on social media.

Step 4: Set Brand Guidelines

Your brand guidelines should comprise of all details regarding your brand activity on social media. It should also be clear and accessible to anyone who is on your team with access to your social accounts.

By outlining these details in the very beginning of your social media marketing strategy you will have a clearly defined and recognisable brand identity on social media.

This will ensure your team is on the same page and that you stay consistent with your brand persona.

Below are some suggestions you may want to consider including in your social media marketing brand guidelines:

  • Brand voice
  • What kind of tone/language do you use? Is it the same on every platform?
  • What kind of emojis do you use?
  • Brand colours and elements
  • Font
  • How formally/informally do you want to be perceived?
  • Which hashtags do you always use on each social network? (build hashtag clouds for certain themed posts)
  • Protocol on interacting with your audience: Who is responsible for replying to comments and messages?
  • Banned words/topics: There are some things you never want your brand to talk about on social media – even if it’s obvious to you, avoid any potential faux pas by outlining them in the guidelines.

Your guidelines are what will help your audience to feel a familiarity with you and your brand and this cultivates loyalty—so make sure you stay consistent across your social networks.

How To Use Social Media For Marketing

Step 5: Plan Your Content

This is the fun and creative part, where everything comes together. This is where you will decide what type of content will best for attaining your objectives on each social platform.

This usually involves a mixture of the below formats:

  • Photos
  • Videos
  • Graphics
  • Articles
  • Livestreams
  • Stories

Your audience and competitor analysis would of helped you identify some of what will work for your industry.

Really think about your target audience and get to the core of what truly matters to them and what they’re most inclined to respond to.

Step 6: Use A Content Calendar

A great way to stay on top of all your content, especially if you’re using multiple channels is by using a content calendar.

This also allows you to see how frequently you are publishing and ensure posting consistency.

Using a content calendar, you can plan ahead for big events, milestones or brand announcements.

You can use a platform that offers this or create your own one in excel.

Step 7: Schedule Social Media Content

The best way to stay efficient and save hours of time is by scheduling your social media content.

Using an automated management and scheduling tool like Hootsuite, Sprout Social or Hopper HQ, allows you to bulk upload your photos, videos and text posts for some of the main social networks such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn — and set them to be published in the weeks ahead!

Step 8: Track Your Insights & Metrics

When looking at how to use social media for marketing, one of the most important aspects to your entire social media strategy is tracking your content’s performance.

It’s all well and dandy putting out beautiful content and engaging with your audience, but if you aren’t looking at the numbers then you won’t learn what works best.

You might think an Instagram campaign is brilliant, but if it doesn’t achieve what its objectives were, then it’s a waste of time and resources.

By tracking key metrics you can develop and optimise your activity and become even better at your social media marketing!

With business social media accounts, you have access to insights such as reach, impressions, engagement as well as information about your audience demographics, such as age, gender and location. These are all good metrics and insights to keep a consistent eye on!

Top Social Media Marketing Tips for 2021

1. Start A Facebook Group

If you’ve thought about creating a Facebook group – now is the time to do it as it will offer major social media marketing advantages!

With the radical changes occurring within social media – Facebook was hit the greatest. Their algorithm changed,  making Facebook pages more challenging to grow or profit from.

Essentially, Facebook is saying you’ll be seeing more from your friends, family, and groups in your newsfeeds. And less “public content”, such as from businesses or brands.

Benefits of running a Facebook group:

  • An increase in your website traffic
  • Promote your products and services in a non-salesy way
  • Engage and connect with your audience in an authentic way
  • Build your email list
  • Grow your business

2. Take Advantage Of Video Content In Your Strategy

We all know how important video content has become, especially when it comes to your social media marketing.

So, if you haven’t already, it’s time to make sure you’re all aboard that bandwagon as soon as possible!

There are many different ways to use video content in your social media strategy,  but right now live videos appear to be the most popular and beneficial.

Live videos allow you to connect with your audience in a more real and  authentic way that isn’t possible in other content formats. Plus you can repurpose your live videos!

People love to engage by asking questions, so you can connect to them on a more personal level by interacting with them during and after your live video.

According to Facebook, you’ll see 6x the interaction and engagement with a live video.

3. Update Your Bios

One of the best, quickest and easiest ways to revamp your social media accounts is to update all of your bios.

Make sure to include a link to your website, as well as a short sentence about who you are or what you do — ensure your bios are consistent across all of your social media platforms.

4. Start Collaborating

Social media is all about connecting and building community and so by doing this and collaborating with others you will also help to grow your social media community even more.

Continuously look for more ways to collaborate with any other like-minded small businesses.

For example, you could collaborate and host a social media giveaway for your followers. This is a great way to grow your following with customers who are likely to be interested.

5. Try Out Instagram Reels

If you were ever intrigued by TikTok, but weren’t quite ready to dive into it, Reels is the perfect way to begin posting more video content.

The easiest way to start out with testing Instagram Reels is by repurposing existing video content.

Why “New Year, New Me” Shouldn’t Be Your Plans For Change in 2021

The concept of “new year, new me” is somewhat of an alluring fad that has been taken on by the trending masses thanks to its propagation on social media over the past few years.

Whilst New Year’s resolutions are not a “new” thing, there is definitely something inviting about forgetting/forgiving oneself of past transgressions, hitting the reset button and starting the new year on a clean slate.

After all, we’re only human and it feels so much better letting go of the guilt for things we didn’t achieve or stick to in the past year.

But, after 2020, I’m beginning to see things a little differently…

In this article, I want to share my thoughts on 2020 and what it has taught me, why I think the idea of “new year, new me” is outdated and how we should go about bringing in longer-lasting, more meaningful change into our lives in 2021.

The Year That Was 2020

They say that “hindsight is 2020” and boy has the year of our lord 2020 shown/forced the world to reflect on the life choices we make.

When the pandemic constricted the world in its stranglehold back in March, none of us would have expected that our very lives and all our day to day social interactions would be robbed from us without as much as a warning shot.

Covid-19 pandemic

With what now feels like the second that it takes one to take in a breath, we were banished to our homes (for those of us blessed enough to even have them), millions out of jobs and a “new normal” for us to get our heads around as our world suddenly became a whole lot smaller.

In order to fight this invisible enemy, we all had to (and continue to in some places) go against the very nature of what makes life so special and adjust how we go about living, how we work/secure our financial futures and ultimately, look inside to discover what is most important to us.

I mean, for once, all we had was time…

What 2020 Has Taught Me

This was a year that I’m sure many of us would like to put (rather firmly) in the past as the countdown to 2021 draws nearer, but I’m definitely in the camp of those who will want to use it as a stark reminder of why waiting for the new year to make positive changes is simply too late.

20 things that 2020 has taught me:

  1. Nothing, absolutely nothing, is a given.
  2. Life is just too short and time waits for no one so we need to live each day to its fullest.
  3. Every day is an opportunity to make a significant difference in your life and a difference in those you choose to give your time to.
  4. The harder (smarter) you work, the luckier you get.
  5. Appreciate every single thing that we have in this life, especially the little things that we all take for granted.
  6. The importance of relationships and connecting more deeply with loved ones.
  7. What true friendship looks like and that you should always check-in with your special people.
  8. Do something active every day, your health is the ultimate wealth.
  9. Use challenges in life as a way to grow spiritually and mentally.
  10. Fear is the absence of knowledge.
  11. The value of seeing a smile (literally) or making someone smile.
  12. We are all in this together and part of the human family no matter where we come from, how much we have or what we believe in.
  13. Never give up on yourself or on others.
  14. Be adaptive, be flexible and create a life that affords you greater freedom
  15. Find enjoyment in every single moment of the “journey” — I will never utter the words “are we there yet?” ever again!
  16. Be kind. You have absolutely no idea what someone is going through and your kindness might be the 1 thing that makes their day.
  17. Don’t miss an opportunity to tell your family and friends that you love them.
  18. The value of a kiss and a warm embrace.
  19. Patience is most certainly a virtue worth waiting for.
  20. The immense importance of the selflessness and sacrifice of those that put their lives at risk to protect the greater good.

What has 2020 taught you? Please let me know in the comments below!

It’s Time To Ditch “New Year, New Me” & Do This Instead!

There is no better time than right now.

If 2020 has taught us anything it’s that there is so much in this world that we don’t have control over, but that we have the power to control how we spend our time.

When it comes to making long-lasting, meaningful changes in our lives every day, it’s a lot easier said than done.
But, there are a few key points that I want to share that will help you stick to achieving your goals long after the euphoria/bravado of ringing in a new year fades away.

Failing To Plan is Planning To Fail

How is it possible to achieve anything in this life without a solid plan to follow?

Often, resolutions are these massive ideas to make £10,000/m or lose a few stone that are backed up with a head full of bubbly and the excitement of starting over again on a fresh canvas.

Facts are that most people fail to follow through because they don’t have a map to plot the course forward.

How To Create a Dream Book book

When you are able to break down bigger targets into more bite-sized ones with an actionable strategy of just how you’re going to go about reaching each milestone, it makes things a whole lot easier.

Write down daily/weekly/monthly goals and back it up with an action plan that is measurable and keeps you going with the small wins necessary to see you through to the bigger prize.

In order for this to work, however, it is something that you’ll need to be tracking and keeping tabs on every single day, which is the precursor to…

Making it A Habit

Every single little thing that we gravitate towards in this life is the direct result of a habit.

Forming good habits is all about taking a positive step each and every day in the right direction — it can take anywhere from 18 to 254 days for a person to form a new habit.

Nothing in life comes easy and you are doing yourself a massive disservice by thinking that it’ll be easier next year (this is a mindset habit that needs adjusting like yesterday!)

Want to manage your weight? Start today!

Looking to get fit and healthy? Start today!

Thinking of a side hustle to earn more? Start today!

We are creatures of habit and when we substitute the bad with the good we can almost immediately start feeling better about the change we’re making.

But, simply planning, doing and hoping that we’ll stick with it is not enough to see the majority of us through.

For this, you also need to…

Make Your Reason To Succeed Bigger Than Your Excuse Not To

This is a personal motto that has helped me immensely throughout the years whenever I felt like throwing in the towel.

It requires a certain level of introspection to unearth what you’re fighting for and a realistic — or perhaps even a brutally honest — look at what the consequences of you not succeeding will mean and writing it all down.

For instance, not getting in shape or taking your health seriously might mean that you will die young, or won’t be able to support and look after your kids, or will place a heavy burden on your spouse.

It’s definitely not a feel-good exercise, but that’s the whole point.

The objective in writing down and visualizing the consequences is not to scare you, but to galvanize you into immediate action and to serve as a stern reminder of what making excuses might cost you.

With this, you will have a strong enough reason/s to not fail, but we all have our off days when it’s easier to forget and that’s when you’ll need to…

Get Support From an Accountability Partner

2020 was one of the most challenging years to date, but I can safely say that I was able to “get by with a little help from my friends.”

There is no denying the power of establishing support structures to help keep you on the straight and narrow.

This may come in the form of an accountability group, going to regular meetings, enlisting the help of a coach or simply a good friend/family member who will keep you to task — basically someone who will see through your sh!t;)

Ask your family or friends to become your accountability partner

It’s one thing to let yourself down and another entirely when you disappoint those closest to you because you don’t stick to your word.

There are also a bunch of cool apps to keep you motivated for that extra boost when you’re by yourself.

Get Going After The Life of Your Dreams Today!

If you follow these steps you’ll be well on your way to making a positive impact in your life without losing the drive we often do when things inevitably start piling up.

Procrastination is the ultimate enemy of success.

Whatever success looks like to you, everything can change in the blink of an eye, so please start today!

Nothing comes from nothing.

Success is an accumulation of countless hours, blood, sweat and tears that we owe to ourselves to sacrifice and live a life without regrets.

Goal Setting How To: A Guide For Mums Who Want Massive Success

In this goal setting how to guide I share with you why creating sustainable goals will be the key to your inevitable success!

Before I started my business in Forever I was aware of setting goals, but did I always stick to them? No.

Did I have the right goals in mind? Sometimes, but not always.

It’s definitely been a journey learning how to formulate achievable goals that I can take aligned action on.

That’s why I felt I had to write an article on this topic in the hope that it can help you on your path to setting successful goals!

What’s Goal Setting?

I’m sure you’re familiar with having new years resolutions, which most often than not become a list of things we want, but with no clear action steps to get there.

Why “New Year, New Me” Shouldn’t Be Your Plans For Change in 2021

This is not always a true reflection of setting goals.

For some people sticking to goals can be challenging because they don’t differentiate their goals from more informal, everyday self-improvement endeavours.

Just because you decide to start going to the gym every day doesn’t necessarily make that a conscious goal.

So let’s explore what goal setting means.

Genuine goal setting is identifying something you want to accomplish and denoting measurable objectives and timeframes to help you achieve it.

It’s important to remember that goals are unique to every individual and they can look different depending on someone’s lifestyle, values and definition of success.

What a friend is striving for may not be congruent with what you want to achieve and that’s totally okay.

We’re all walking our own paths.

Why Goal Setting is Important

It’s easy to dream about what you want, but if you don’t have a clear idea of what your heart truly desires to achieve, then how would you know what to focus on in life.

We would just aimlessly float along...

Goal setting is such an essential cog in the wheel to life in that it helps you decide and focus on what’s really important to you.

It gets you clear on your future and then gives you steps to creating it.

When you are able to effectively set goals you can then measure your progress and visualise your dreams.

When you have the big picture in mind you’re able to overcome procrastination because you know what you’re working hard towards.

Setting goals will also keep you fully accountable to yourself and others.

Whether you’re setting goals for work or in your personal life, sharing your goals with others makes you more likely to determine the patterns that will achieve them.

Read “Being a Role Model For Your Kids: 7 Things Network Marketing Taught Me”

Setting goals can help you grow and expand in so many different ways, it pushes you to transform and strive for what you want in life.

They serve as an anchor and guide that you can constantly refer back to, ensuring you are moving in the right direction.

True fulfilment comes from feeling that you have a purpose, goals give us that purpose.

Tony Robbins says, “Progress equals happiness,” and setting goals is what gets us there.

Tips for Goal Setting Success

1. Visualise Your Ideal Future and Lifetime Goals

Taking action towards your goals means nothing if you don’t have a clear picture of what you’re working towards.

It’s one thing to say you want financial freedom or to be able to spend more time with your family, but is this at the forefront of your mind driving the action you take every day?

The first step in goal setting how to is visualising your dreams and life goals.

What does your ideal future look like in both life and business?

Here are some general categories below from Mindtools that can give you an idea of important areas in your life you can set goals for (or use them in conjunction with areas of your own that are important to you):

  • Career – Are you happy with the career you are in? Is it fulfilling you? Are you wanting to reach a new level in your career?
  • Financial – Are you satisfied with your current income? What is your dream salary? Does this relate to your career goals?
  • Education – What are you interested in learning? Do you want to upskill?
  • Family – What dreams do you have for your family? Do you want frequent holidays and time spent together?
  • Artistic – Do you have any artistic goals you want to achieve? Like starting dance or painting?
  • Attitude – Is any part of your mindset holding you back? Is there any part of the way that you behave that upsets you? (If so, set a goal to improve your behaviour or find a solution to the problem.)
  • Pleasure – What makes you feel good? How can you have fun and enjoy life?
  • Public Service – Do you want to help humanity and make the world a better place? What can you do to be of service?

Once you are clear on the big dreams and goals you want to achieve visualise it in as much detail as possible.

By doing this you enable yourself to get a true perspective of what this future looks like.

Get as specific as you want. Feel into what it would feel like if this was already your reality.

Then ask yourself what do you have to do in order to make this vision a reality.

As you move through this process make sure the life goals you want are really yours that you want to achieve and not ones that are pressured from the outside.

2. Set SMART Goals

smart goal setting

A powerful way to hone in on your goals is by using the SMART mnemonic. There are many variations as to what SMART stands for, but the most common one I’ve seen is:

S – Specific (or Significant).

M – Measurable (or Meaningful).

A – Attainable (or Action-Oriented).

R – Relevant (or Rewarding).

T – Time-bound (or Trackable).

Once you’re clear on your big life goals, you can create smaller goals in the form of action steps you need to take with the big picture in mind.

Using SMART goals can work really well here.

Say one of your big goals is to lose weight and feel healthier. As this is quite broad you can use SMART goals to get really specific.

A very generic example would be:

I want to lose 10kg by the 4 of November 2020, by exercising every day and watching my calorie intake. I’ll track my progress by weighing myself at the end of every week.

Want to dive deeper into network marketing?

3. Write Down Your Goals

Writing your goals down really cements them into reality and they become more real instead of just some vague thought that only lives in the mind.

Write them down in your journal and then also put them somewhere visible so you can see them every day.

I often like to use Canva and create my own iPhone screensavers with my goals so that every time I look at my phone I’m reminded of what I’m working towards.

Putting them on sticky notes and placing them on the bathroom mirror also works nicely.

Check out these inspirational network marketing quotes!

4. Make an Action Plan

A goal means nothing without taking action steps to get there.

Deciding on a goal is much easier than determining the action plan you will have to implement in order to meet that goal.

So it’s incredibly important to create an action plan with clear steps you are going to take. This can be seen as breaking your bigger goals down into smaller short-term goals.

If you want to make more money, what steps do you have to take to make that possible? Maybe it’s researching job opportunities, or getting on a call with someone like me to discuss a network marketing opportunity

What will also help you is making sure these steps are on a timeline so you have clear dates for when you want to get something done by.

This creates a sense of urgency, which in turn motivates you to stay on schedule and complete your shorter-term goal.

5. Hold Yourself Accountable When Setting Your Goals

This is essential because if you’re not accountable then it’s easy for things to fall by the wayside.

Keep yourself accountable by sharing your goals with your partner, family or friends, or work with a coach who will be able to hold you to that higher standard.

This will also keep you motivated and give you the incentive to make things happen.

6. Re-evaluate and Assess Your Progress

Take time once a month to see how much progress you’ve made or where new direction may be required.

Also, make sure to celebrate the achievements that were made during the month.

The journey to achieving your goal is as meaningful as having actually achieved the goal.

Les Brown Goal setting how to Quote

7. Stay Consistent

Consistency is key!

Find ways to keep yourself inspired and motivated and enjoy the experience of working towards something significant.

When you finally reach it, it will all feel so worth it!

Further Tips for Goal Setting

  • State each goal as a positive statement – expressing them positively – “I am going to look after my body by eating well” is a much better goal than “You’re so fat, stop eating so much.”
  • Be detailed – ties in with SMART goals, assign dates, times and amounts so that you can measure your progress and achievement.
  • Prioritise your goals – This will help you feel less overwhelmed by having too many goals. It will also give you a better indication of where you can direct your attention to the most pertinent ones.
Benjamin E. Mays Goal setting Quote
  • Keep short-term goals small – you want these to be small and achievable. If a goal is too large and you have no way of realistically achieving it within the desired timeframe, then it can seem that no progress is being made at all.
  • Set performance goals, not outcome goals – Set goals that you will be able to have as much control as possible over. It’s incredibly discouraging to not reach a personal goal for reasons beyond your control!
  • Set realistic goals – It’s all good and well to dream big but you have to actually believe it’s something you can achieve. Otherwise, you will leave yourself feeling disheartened and demotivated.
