Aloe Vera: Your Guide To Health & Beauty With The ‘Miracle Plant’


Aloe vera, the ‘Miracle Plant’, has been used by humans for thousands of years dating all the way back to ancient Egypt — now you know why Cleopatra was such a beaut;) 

The healing properties of this medicinal plant is nature at its very best, and anyone looking to get (and stay) healthy on the inside and out absolutely needs this plant in their lives!

What is Aloe Vera?

There are more than 400 different species of the aloe plant, but aloe barbadensis (aloe vera) is what we know best and use most today — aloe is a superfood many people benefit from today.

The plant is a spiky succulent (excellent at storing water) that is grown in mostly arid, tropical and semi-tropical climates — originally native only to the south-west Arabian Peninsula but subsequently naturalised the world over.  

It is safe to extract the gel found in the leaves and use it directly from the plant or in its commercially sold products like skin lotions, drinks, beauty products and ointments to name but a few.

There are two types of aloe substances that are used in the manufacture of products:

  1. A clear gel that is extracted from aloe leaves — scientists have identified more than 75 active nutrients in the leaf gel and these compounds work together to provide soothing benefits (see the benefits below).
  2. A yellow pulp that is found under the outer part of the plant leaf called aloe latex or aloin — typically used as an oral medication to treat constipation.

How To Harvest Aloe Vera?

When it comes to harvesting leaves from the aloe plant, it is really important to make sure that you pick from mature plants that are planted in the ground.

The leaves that are harvested by hand will not destroy the plant as only the outer leaves will be removed.

If you take care to only cut about 3-4 leaves every two months, you’ll be able to harvest from the same plant over a period of 8-10 years — how’s that for longevity?

Once you’ve made a cut, be sure to hold the leaf cut end down so that the aloin — the stuff you don’t want to be ingesting willy-nilly — can run out.

Afterwards, proceed to wash the leaf, lay it flat on a table and cut away the serrated edges. You can start on one side and fillet off the skin kind of like you would do with a fish.

Once you’ve removed the skin on all sides of the leaf (making sure that you’ve removed the yellowish substance) you can give the clear flesh a good rinse and it’ll make the gel safe to consume.

Now, you might be wondering “what does aloe vera taste like?” before you go ahead…

The short answer is somewhat bitter, watery and plant-ish — assuming you’re planning to extract the gel yourself.

My friend (sponsor who recruited me into Forever Living), Sarah Evans, introduced me to the ‘aloe vera company’ last year but it just wasn’t the right time for me then.

When she proposed the idea again a few months later, I decided to try and retail a few products alongside my new (6 months old) nail business.

1 month later lockdown happened!

I desperately needed to do something to keep me motivated and replace my income that I was losing.

I wondered if I could start selling a few products to my family and friends as my own family was using and loving them.

I was only expecting to earn a couple of hundred pounds really.

My husband and I started the C9 cleanse 6 weeks into lockdown as the weight crept up – we blogged about our journey and everyone wanted to know about the products.

Prior to Forever, I was a stay at home mum.

After having my children, I decided that I wanted to be a present mum and not miss any of those first moments.

Fortunately, I was able to do this but when my youngest was due to start nursery I began to look at going back to work.

I wanted some financial independence but also something for me, to show you can be mum and successful in your own right.

When I began looking, I realised those 10-2pm, Monday to Friday jobs which give you school holidays off were none existent…

Just when I thought there was nothing out there for me, I met with a friend who showed me how she was working around a young family and I was in!

It ticked all the boxes and l was excited about what I could achieve.

Working in a family business before having the children, I understood the importance of showing up everyday and applying yourself.

That said, working this business gives you the flexibility to work as and when you can in those pockets of time unlike a traditional business.

Being organised is key to success, planning what you want to achieve and breaking it down with the help and support of those around you.

And the great thing is, you choose your level of success, it’s down to you what you want to achieve and how quickly you want to get there.

Decide what you want, sit with your sponsor and make a plan then you can get to work!

The biggest challenge I actually had was belief!

Not a belief in the company or the products because they are truly phenomenal, but a belief in myself.

So the development personally that I have been in has been truly life-changing and that is something money can’t buy!

Every day I am motivated and inspired by the incredible people I am working with, I’m motivated by the desire to provide for my family and in helping other people achieve their goals and dreams, and hopefully inspiring them too!

Along the journey, I’ve made some amazing friends and I’m truly grateful to the person who introduced me to Forever and my best friend, Sam Jeffries for literally being my biggest cheerleader — she’s one badass woman in business!

Always there to say the right things, believe in me when I’ve doubted myself and be at the front supporting me.

The bonus income has given me the financial independence I was looking for which enables me to treat myself and our family without having to think twice about whether we should be spending the money, which is a lovely feeling.

There have been so many incredible memories and every single one I can think of we are smiling and laughing…

But, the one thing about them that stands out are the people.

I have never experienced friendships like them.

16 of us travelled to Stockholm in April 2019 for our Global Rally trip and I have memories to last a lifetime.

2 years prior to joining I was introduced to Forever by another mum at a baby group, however, the timing wasn’t right for me then, and actually I don’t think I fully understood what Forever could do for me.

It all seemed too good to be true.

My background is in HR Management and I was an HR Business Partner within the retail sector at the time. I worked long hours and travelled a lot and felt I was missing out on my children growing up. 

When I went on maternity leave with my third baby I started to look for something that I could do from home — work flexibly and on my own terms, but still be able to earn a corporate income!  

That’s when I saw a friend had started her business with Forever. I met up with her and joined on the spot, not having ever tried a product!  

I saw a huge potential in the marketing plan.

Having worked in big businesses, I believe I have always been reasonably business-minded, working for yourself is a different kettle of fish. 

You need to touch your business every day to build momentum. One of the hardest things for me to get used to was from going from a ‘desk job’ to working in a more flexible way around the family commitments – in pockets of time throughout the day. 

The biggest challenge I’ve faced is my own personal self-belief, but there are so many people cheering you on along the way it has helped my mindset so much.

There is always so much support. Everyone is so positive, kind and helpful.

I am really focused at moving up the marketing plan at the moment, my long term goal is to achieve all the incentives. That really keeps me motivated – the feeling of having achieved something really drives me.

I have been furloughed for 3 months but not on full pay, so my Forever income has been a lifesaver at this time more than ever and had highlighted the need for having multiple income streams.

My key advice is simple: Use the products.

People are always watching you to see what they’re doing for you. They buy into you as person and through that, the products.

Be a walking advertisement in your day to day life. You’re being watched even when you don’t realise it.

I’ve been using the products for over ten years now — they’ve changed my life and health. Since starting to drink the aloe drinking gels 18 months ago I’ve felt healthier and have more energy.

My background is in academic publishing, I worked for an international agency as a business development manager, I had an amazing well-paid job, I travelled to conferences a good amount of time and it was all glamorous and I really loved it until my son was born.

My priorities then changed — I didn’t want to be the mother who is going to be in the office all the time or travelling whilst someone else is looking after my son.

So I started looking for something different and my previous employer from a different agency contacted me to show me the opportunity with Forever and the rest is history.

It was quite challenging at the beginning when I started the business because of my personal circumstances and I have also never run a business before. I didn’t know what to expect as I’ve always worked for someone before so this was quite a challenge.

I think however by being persistent and consistent with your activities and not giving up when things are not going great will actually get you on the right track to succeed.

What keeps me motivated to succeed in the future is that I want to provide for my son a decent lifestyle and also to show him that hard work and not giving up will help him achieve anything he wants in life.

I’m from Hungary. I studied to be an actor and I have worked in theatres and appeared on tv since I was a child.

Later on in life, I went into retail and I have been a manager of several retail stores. Until I discovered my true passion: cooking.

I discovered that I had a talent for cooking and I retrained myself to be a chef and cooked for friends and family and restaurants.

As any good chef, I had to taste all the dishes before they went out to the tables and I became double the size of my original body.

This is when I have discovered Forever Living.

Back in 2007, one of our guests became a good friend of mine and he saw how I struggled with my weight. I tried a lot of things to lose weight, but none of them gave me a quick result so I stopped before I could see any results.

Then, my friend introduced me to the C9 program.

Those 9 days completely turned my world around.

In just 9 days I lost almost 9 kg, which was an incredible thing for me!

I had more energy and never felt so good.

That gave me the right push forward and I picked up healthy habits and started exercising.

I went from 114kg I down to 71 kg.

I got interested in the business as well as during this time a lot of friends of mine and customers were asking how on earth I managed to do this — but before jumping in I had to ask myself a few questions:

  2. Would I be good at it?
  3. Would anyone follow me?
  4. Do I know enough or am I good enough?

Learning about how to improve leadership skills is an imperative aspect to building any business. 

We are not all natural born leaders, I for one, was definitely not, I had to teach myself these skills in order to build a successful business.  

Having leadership skills is an invaluable tool no matter what kind of business you have, be it network marketing or something else. 

This article will explore what leadership skills are, types of leadership styles, characteristics of a good leader and tips on how you can improve leadership skills when building a business.

What are Leadership Skills?

Broadly speaking, leadership skills are the strengths and abilities demonstrated by a person in order to inspire, motivate and guide others towards a shared goal. 

No matter the organisation, leadership skills’ importance lies in its ability to provide a foundation for a strong and successful team, as well as the ability to get tasks done efficiently — what any business owner would want.

I came across an acronym for leadership on the internet here and really loved this breakdown of the word. It serves as a perfect reminder to come back to when being a leader or stepping into that role. 

L – Love – be in love with what you do.

E – Enthusiastic – be expressive in your enthusiasm.

A – Attitude – have the right attitude always. 

D – Desire – you must have an eager desire to learn all there is to know about your profession. 

E – Emulate – emulate others who you aspire and look up to. 

R – Respect – always be respectful and earn respect from others through always being in alignment with your integrity.

S – Success – is only as sweet as how you got there. 

H – Humble – have humility and stay humble about your success and always pay homage to those who helped get you there.

I – Imagination – use your imagination and tap into the creative energy that lies within, this is your very own power.

P – Passion – stay passionate in everything you do.

Strong and successful leadership must start with personal mastery. You have to practise what you preach in order to lead with integrity and authenticity.

Types of Leadership Styles

Listed below are some of the most common and well-known leadership styles. Understanding your style is an essential aspect to how you show up as a leader and the leadership skills you will embody.

1. Autocratic Style

This is very much a “do as I say” type of leadership. Often, an autocratic leader rules with it being their way or the highway, as they feel they know better.  They make all the decisions with little to no input from team members.

2. Authoritative Style 

The authoritative leadership style is a lot more inclusive than the above style. These leaders will  map the way and set expectations, while also engaging and energizing followers along the way.

They will take time to explain their thinking, they will never just issue orders. They will allow people space for choice and to have a voice on how to achieve common goals.

3. Pacesetting Style

This style of leadership has a “do as I do!” attitude. This style is descriptive of a driven leader who sets the pace as in racing. Pacesetters set the bar very high and push their team to run hard and fast toward a goal. 

4. Democratic Style

Democratic leaders are also inclusive and will likely ask “What do you think?.” They have an open book policy and want to be transparent with their team.

This style works well for garnering trust and promoting team spirit and cooperation from your team. As this type of leader you will get people to do what you want done, but in a way that they would like to do it. 

5. Coaching Style

A coaching leadership style, which is the approach I take in my business has a “consider this” approach. As a coach, you are not telling someone what to do, but rather guiding them to unlock their potential that lies within. 

These types of leaders are very compassionate towards people and want to empower them as best they can — it’s their belief that everyone has the power within themselves.

6. Affiliative Style

This type of leader focuses on putting people first and they believe in getting up close and personal with people. 

They are very attentive and want to support the emotional needs of their team as well as they can. They will offer an open line of communication and strive to create an environment that is harmonious and collaborative for their team. 

7. Laissez-Faire Style

The laissez-faire leaders, also known as delegative leaders, offer little or no guidance to group members and leave the decision-making up to the team.

While this type of leadership style can be useful in situations involving highly qualified professionals, it often leads to poorly defined roles and a lack of motivation.

This type of leader can come across as appearing aloof.

This style of leadership is definitely not the example of leadership skills you would want to follow when building a business, especially of the network marketing kind.

It’s not to say that you will fit into one style category or that you should, but it’s helpful to know where your strengths may be and which areas require improvement.

1. Take Initiative

Taking initiative is right up there on the list of effective leadership skills. At the end of the day it’s YOUR business so you are the one that has to take the lead. 

Whether it’s a network marketing business you have or something else, it’s up to you to drive it!

2. Communication and Listening Effectively

Excellent communication skills are paramount to becoming an effective leader. However, communication is much more than expressing what you want to happen, it’s also about being able to truly listen to others. 

If you want to know how to improve leadership skills in business, LISTEN.

This is one of the most crucial leadership skills you can develop. 

When you take the time to listen to others you’re able to get valuable feedback, suggestions and ideas. 

In my network marketing business we are all about this dynamic. 

3. Motivate Others

Are you making an effort to motivate your team?

A great leader should influence people in the most positive way.

You motivate people by understanding what they need and want. This is a big focus for my team and I, we do our best to keep the energy high.

4. Practise Discipline

Every successful business is built on the foundation of discipline. This is an integral leadership skill that you have to demonstrate if you want your business to succeed. 

Effective execution = discipline. Your team will learn this skill from how well you do it. 

5. Leaders are Learners 

Personal development is the ultimate tool for developing leadership skills. Whether it’s books, seminars, podcasts or YouTube, don’t stop learning

Take 20-60 minutes per day and make it a goal to learn and get inspired by others.

This has been a key tool in my life and work.

6. Handling Conflicts

Learning how to handle conflicts is an essential leadership skill. A good leader knows how to handle difficulties amongst people and resolve conflicts. 

This takes a certain amount of courage, as it’s not always easy to be the one to do the right thing, but you will be respected in your ability to do so. 

7. Be a Follower

Leaders should learn to recognise the value of their team. Even if you have been building your network marketing business longer than someone else, we are always able to learn from others — if you’re the smartest person in the room, then you are in the wrong room!

8. Develop Situational Awareness

In simple terms this can be defined as “knowing what is going on around us.” When looking at how to improve leadership skills, developing a sense of situational awareness is useful. 

This is when you can see the bigger picture and anticipate problems before they occur, as well identify opportunities.

Inspiring others is an important leadership skill especially in a network marketing business as people will require encouragement and guidance.

10. Lead by Example

If you want to know how to improve your leadership skills — lead by example, always.

Act in a way that shows others how to act. 

You can only provide advice or tell someone to do something if you’ve actually done it, this is how you can be an authentic leader.

11. Be Goal-Oriented

An effective leader will always focus on a solution, rather than whining about a problem. They are goal-oriented and will make sure the most important tasks at hand are completed first. 

They have the end vision in mind and are always working towards it — this is important when building a business, because if you don’t know what you’re working towards, then what are you even doing.

12. Take Responsibility 

Learning how to take responsibility is a key action step for how to improve leadership skills. 

Pointing fingers and playing the blame game when things go wrong is not something a good leader will do. 

Taking responsibility, shows that you’re worthy of trust and respect.

13.  Share the Glory

Oooh, this is an essential leadership skill and something I make a keen effort to do with my team because the truth is, I wouldn’t be where I am in my business without them.

Whatever type of business you may have, ultimately any success and achievements you get are due to the efforts of the entire team.

A leader is really only as great as the team behind them. 

When you share the glory you set an example for others to do so with their teams and this will inevitably result in respect and admiration for your role and impact you have on others.

14. Know How to Develop a Team

Rome wasn’t built in a day and it sure as hell wasn’t built alone, so become an effective leader by developing a strong team through training, teaching and coaching.

If you were to have told me at the beginning of my journey that I would be as good of a business coach as I am now, I would have said “bollocks,” but here we are, proving that anything is possible! 

In a network marketing business like Forever, training new team members is a fundamental part of the business model. Without this you can’t expect new members to achieve any goals.

15. Be Confident

Being confident is one of the most difficult leadership skills to develop, for me at least. 

Some people are naturally better at this, but for others, like myself I had to “fake until you make it.”

I was immensely shy and uncomfortable talking to people when I first started my Forever business, but I pushed through and it got easier the more I put myself out there. 

“I Am” affirmations can really work well for this. Choose a quality about yourself you are struggling to believe like confidence for example and construct an affirmation such as — “I am confident” or “I am a well-spoken public speaker.” 

Write these statements on sticky notes and stick them all around your house as a reminder and then say them out loud in the mirror every morning when you’re getting ready for your day.

16.  Give Value and Teach People Through Content

Providing value and teaching people through content is key in setting you on the path to being a good leader. 

Make a place for yourself as an authority on a subject through content in the form of videos, blog articles (like this one), podcasts, emails, social media etc. 

When you consistently give tips to people and teach them basic strategies that can help them, people will start to see you as an expert and therefore a leader in your realm of work.

Think of your target audience and the problems and questions they may have related to your industry and then solve them.

17. Model Other Leaders in the Same Industry as You

If you want to look at how to improve leadership skills, look at other leaders in your industry and get inspired.

This is not about copying what other people do, just look at how they do things and how you can adapt what they do to work for you. 

Why reinvent the wheel or over complicate things?

We are all here to learn from each other. 


18. Host Something Live Every Week 


Do a live webinar on Zoom or something similar at least once per week for your leads and/or team. 

By hosting something live every week, people will start to notice you as a leader who is committed to helping others succeed and by doing this your speaking/presenting skills will naturally get better.

19. Post Results and Testimonials About What You’ve Done


Sharing results and testimonials is a great and authentic way to show people that you’re a good leader. 

By having other people vouch for you in testimonials talking about the impact you’ve had on their lives is a powerful way to show the kind of leader you are.

Women in business have come a long way over the years. We have had to stand up for our place in what was once considered a “man’s world”, proving that we can have a thriving career and raise a family at the same time. 

When I started my career in Forever, I was a single mum with two little children, never in my dreams did I think I would be where I am today — I surpassed my goal of being financially free and showed myself just how limitless my potential really is. 

This article is in honour of some badass women in business that every mum with a dream for more can learn from. 

My story may be different from yours, but I’m not more special than you and the same goes for these women — if you want something, go out there and get it!

My aim is to get you feeling inspired and show you that you too can have and be whatever it is you want in life no matter where you might be on your journey.

Bella is the perfect example of never being too young to have an entrepreneurial spirit. Origami Owl was already inspired from when she was 14 years old. 

For her 16th birthday, Bella wanted a car like every other 16 year old, so she found a way to make this happen herself. 

She began to sell lockets to friends and family after school and with the enormous and delighted response from her customers, Bella knew that she had found her niche. 

She began her company with only $350 and it has now grown into a very successful international business.

Bella used her influence as a young entrepreneur and in just a short few years Origami Owl expanded substantially and is now a multi-level marketing company with over 60,000 Independent Distributors. 

Her company is built on jewellery as her product focus, but helping others achieve their dreams is her passion.

By 2015, she climbed to 2nd place.

This woman is a force to be reckoned with. Growing up in Madras, India, Indra was encouraged heavily by her family to pursue academics and this paved the way for her incredibly successful career.

Oprah doesn’t need much of an introduction, she is the quintessential example of a woman who overcame extreme adversity in her life and went on to become one of the most sought after woman in the world. 

She started out as a news anchor and in 1984 she moved to Chicago to host a struggling talk show AM Chicago. 

Oprah’s authentic and honest personality quickly turned the program into a success, and in 1985 it was renamed The Oprah Winfrey Show – talk about a success story!

Syndicated nationally in 1986, the program became the highest-rated television talk show in the United States and earned several Emmy Awards.

Oprah then went on to start multiple businesses. As Oprah says “what I know is, is that if you do work that you love, and the work fulfils you, the rest will come.”

Martha Stewart came from humble beginnings, she started out with a small home-based catering business which became very successful and later bought out her partner’s equity stake.

From there, she managed to meet the right people and soon wrote a number of popular cookbooks. Martha turned into somewhat of a celebrity chef and appeared on a handful of popular tv shows such as Larry King Tonight and The Oprah Winfrey Show.

In 1997, this powerhouse of a woman centralised all her ventures with the creation of her media company, Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia which became a multi-million dollar empire.

Sophia went from being a community college dropout to a CEO of a company worth close to $300 Million Dollars!

Her is story is one that faced much resilience getting to where she is today. She could have easily given up but chose to forge on and become one of the most well-known businesswomen in the world.

Her first business Nasty Gal was started from her bedroom at the age of 22 — this was an eBay store called “Nasty Gal Vintage,” which sold old clothes she’d found from local thrift stores and estate sales while working as a receptionist at an art school in San Francisco.

She initially just wanted to earn some extra money to pay the bills, but her little eBay shop became a wild success to her surprise. Soon after Sophia took it off eBay, set up a website and made Nasty Gal a standalone brand.

Nasty Gal made millions and then sadly lost millions and went into bankruptcy, the company was sold off.

Sophia chose to not let this failure keep her down and she went on to write her book GIRLBOSS, the success of this book took off and the title soon became its own brand.

There are a couple of things I wish I knew before starting a network marketing business — let’s just say I’ve learned a lot of things the hard way — but I’ve come out a stronger businesswoman in the process.

If you’re thinking of starting your own network marketing business you need to do as much research as possible before you get going and this is the perfect start!

We’ll be exploring what you need to think about when it comes to starting your business, the ins and outs of how to start a business in the UK, what I personally struggled with, managing time and expectations with results and the challenges of being your own badass boss.

What To Consider When Starting Your Own Network Marketing Business In The UK

Working for yourself can be very fulfilling: 

  • You can do something that you’re more passionate about or interested in. 
  • Choose your own hours and have more flexibility in your day.
  • Work around other commitments like your children.
  • Work from home. 
  • Have more power over your income.
  • Answer to no one but yourself – uh yes please!

However, there can be a few downsides: 

  • Working long hours and weekends.
  • Never really being able to switch off from work.
  • Dealing with an irregular income.
  • Having to do your own bookkeeping and tax returns.
  • Limited or no access to employment benefits like paid leave.

For me, when I started my network marketing business with Forever, the downsides were and still are a lot less than if you were to start a business from scratch because:  

  • You choose how many hours you are comfortable working when getting started, so you don’t have to sacrifice time with the family if you don’t want to. 
  • You can keep your full-time job while building the business until you start earning enough to replace it completely. 
  • You can earn a part-time or full-time income. 
  • You will have mentors who will support you along the journey so you don’t have to figure it all out yourself. 
  • You develop a community that you work with so you don’t feel alone even though it’s your own business.
  • It’s low risk. 
  • There’s already an established business plan and model in place that you can work off so you don’t have to create your own.

The Different Kinds Of Business Entities
That You Can Register 

Sole Trader

A sole trader is often the best way to go for starting a business in the UK as it’s simpler and has a lower cost to set up, it also has flexibility with expenses, but you’re personally responsible for your business’s debts and you’ll also have some accounting responsibilities to tend to. 

In an MLM business, I suggest registering within 3 months of starting trade with selling products, but if you’re only a customer then it’s not necessary.

Private Limited Company (Ltd)

You would look at becoming a LTD company in the UK when your profit turnover is £50,000 or more. With a limited company your finances are separate from your personal finances, but there are more reporting and management responsibilities.

It’s always best to seek advice from an accountant, but the company set up is easy enough for you to do yourself. 

Partnership

A partnership is a pretty straightforward way for two or more people to run a business together.

You could consider registering as a partnership before a LTD and then bring a family member into the network marketing company — this is often less expensive and has less paperwork than going the LTD route. 

You share responsibility for your business’s debts with your partner and you’ll also have accounting responsibilities like the other structures mentioned.

Often new network marketing businesses do not start out as a LTD, most of the time you’ll likely need to register as a sole trader.

I’ve outlined three of the most common legal business structures above, but I suggest that you read up further on these and consult a professional so you can decide on the best option for you.

When you’ve just signed up to build your very own business through network marketing, there are a couple of things to think about to set yourself up for network marketing success.

This is not an exhaustive list, but it does cover some key areas I suggest you give a proper think over.

Draw Up a Budget

Firstly and most importantly draw up a budget and get clear on what your monthly costs will be. 

A network marketing business is great because there’s usually only a small initial investment fee when you sign up and monthly costs are low.

With Forever, we encourage people to start with the ‘Start Your Journey Kit’ which is only £199.75 and then they can invest as big or small as they like from there. 

Ideally you’d need a laptop or a smartphone — many just use their smartphone — and WIFI to get going so overheads are minimal when getting your business off the ground and operational.

As your business grows this list will expand and costs may include:

Business Plan

In Forever (and in many other similar successful companies) they already have a proven business model and plan that you plug into — that’s the beauty of this business, you don’t have to reinvent the wheel. 

What is pertinent is creating a business plan that outlines your business goals over the short term and long term and your plan of action for reaching them. 

This is something that you don’t have to do alone — you could have a mentor like me who would be able to support you with this. 


Paying Taxes 

Having your own business means having to sort out your own tax.

This can make you feel pretty barmy at first if you haven’t done it before, but there are plenty of accountants and bookkeepers who won’t charge an arm and a leg to help you with this. 

A few tips I have when it comes to taxes are: 

  • Mitigate any tax liability by speaking to your accountant about what you can expense through the company. 
  • Work smart with your money/profit by investing in tax free savings accounts or retirement annuities. 
  • Keep receipts of your spending. 

Is a Business Bank Account Necessary?

Whether or not to open a business bank account will depend on which business entity you register when starting up a business in the UK.  

Usually if you’re starting out as a sole trader, using your personal bank account in the beginning is easy enough and then as your business grows you can look at opening a business bank account if you decide to register an LTD.  

What is great is that you can get free business banking for three banks in the UK — so it won’t cost you a penny.

Should I Hire An Accountant?

It’s always wise to seek advice from a professional accountant.

What works for someone else may not be right for you because of your personal circumstances so it’s best to double check with someone qualified to know. 

Often an initial 30 minute consultation can be free or low cost and it can help you in the long term.

Any Legalities/Compliance Regulations to Be Aware Of?

Make sure to keep all business expenses as mentioned already and follow the company policy for your network marketing company — and all should be dandy! 

Protecting Your Business From a Legal and Disaster Perspective?

Forever has product liability so this isn’t really something you have to worry about. The only time this will be necessary is if you run any events in public spaces and then you will require public liability.

The person you join and sign up to the business with, is the same person you will be working with directly — so it’s important that you get on, have similar values, feel inspired and motivated by them, they’re empathetic, they’ve got systems in place that you can follow and that they’ve achieved what the company has to offer.

No marketing know-how is required to get started on your journey — just the drive and passion to learn and succeed!

This person doesn’t necessarily need to be direct to you if you are introduced by someone newer as long as you have the opportunity to be mentored and coached by them. 

Many have achieved success without mentors, but if i was looking to start with a new company now, I would look at how many successful leaders are in their network.

Get your business image in order by creating a personal brand like I have — again, this will only begin to take shape in your mind over time and you don’t need to fuss over it too much in the beginning while you’re learning the ropes.

Starting something is always half the battle won!

Many network marketing companies like Forever allow you to create your own “personal brand”, but check first what is allowed in the guidelines. 

Develop an identity that reflects your values and the way you want to be perceived by your target market. 

Do this by getting a logo designed and use a consistent colour scheme and fonts across all your marketing materials. 

When you’re ready set-up a website and get any other necessary pieces of marketing together like business cards etc.

There are easy-to-use design platforms like Canva that make it quick, easy and even free to design your own attractive materials and social media images.

Focus on The Customer and Fully Understand The Market

There are many examples of companies out there that don’t always have the best product/service or are not first to market, yet are very successful because they have mastered online marketing and sales — get good at this and you can sell anything, especially something you truly believe in!

Research the demographics of your potential customer base and get to know and understand their buying habits.

My market is mums because I’m a mum and I can relate to them and understand what they might want or need.

Are There Pitfalls of Recruiting The Wrong People/Growing The Business Incorrectly?

You can never really recruit the wrong person, some people build a business, others don’t and just stay shoppers, and some can lead you to someone else.

The most important thing is having a duplicatable system that everyone can follow — you can not teach what you don’t do yourself or are not prepared to do yourself. 

Start Whilst Being Employed – If You Can

Before starting a business in the UK try not to quit your job initially just to work on your business. 

I suggest you start building your business part-time in the beginning if you’re working, that way you keep your steady income while you build your business.  

As soon as you feel comfortable with what you’re earning you can let your job go and build full-time. 

Many network marketers run their business as a secondary income — it just depends what kind of flexibility and income you’re looking for!

If you’re a stay-at-home mum then you may have more time to put in, in which case you can go full in guns blazing.

If you are not getting support from your direct upline, I suggest working up towards someone you can follow or find your own mentor in network marketing and see how you can use their advice/systems for your own business.

I really struggled with having the confidence to start, fear of speaking in front of groups and fear of rejection as I was a pretty shy person. 

Many people often feel this way when starting, but if you’re committed and want something enough, you’ll do what it takes to overcome those fears.

How to Manage Time When Starting Your Own Business and Working a Full-Time Job/Being a Stay-at-Home Mum

It is important to plan time in your diary for your daily activities — so blocking out family time, business time, you time and sticking to it. This helps me immensely. 

Make sure you do something in your business in a small way every day. Consistency is key!

Each evening write down a list of the 7 things you want to achieve the next day and then work down that list from number one first.

This way you will get to the bottom rather than cherry picking. If you only get to 4 then 5, 6, 7 become 1, 2, 3 the next day.

What Are The Challenges of Being Your Own Boss as Well as Managing Emotions and Expectations in Business?

It’s a rollercoaster ride and like anything in life it’s the hard days that make you appreciate the great days even more. 

Start each day by drawing a line in the sand as a new day. Be prepared to do what other people are not prepared to do and you will achieve even your biggest dreams!

When it comes to being your own boss, knowing when to switch off is tough and you can often  feel guilty when you’re not working and spending time with the family and vice versa. 

Learning not to procrastinate is a big one, realising that your time is precious and that you should respect the tasks you’ve committed to. 

Ultimately when the going gets tough the buck stops with you. 

You can end up being too hard on yourself but equally you can be too easy on yourself, so it’s about finding that balance.

  1. How to approach (and not to approach) people and answer the awkward questions we all encounter.

This network marketing book is all about asking the right questions to get the right answers — the subtle art of persuasion at its finest.

Allan Pease is famous for his work on body language and it shows in this title. The psychology behind identifying a person’s PMF (primary motivating factor) helps give you a greater chance of convincing them of your offering.

The author shares insights on how to:

  1. Ask your prospects the right questions and useful prompts to get them talking.
  2. How to read your prospects and the body language cues you should look out for.
  3. Different body language gestures to show prospects you’re a good listener so you can close more often.

I really enjoyed this one as there is honestly so much to learn about the psychology of selling and how to “read” the situation.

9 Network Marketing Tips For Starting An Online Business in 2020


Starting an online business in network marketing can seem incredibly daunting at first — that’s why I’m using this platform to share my top network marketing tips 😉

There are a lot of misconceptions in the network marketing industry and many who question the legality of the way the business is structured, and even more who write every network marketing business off as a pyramid scheme — which is Class 2 fraud — before they’ve done their own due diligence.

As for what I think, well experience has taught me that there is always opportunity for those who can keep an open mind, do their due diligence when evaluating and choosing the right company and put in the hard work that is required to succeed! 

In this article we’ll be exploring what network marketing is, how it works, what the various business opportunities within it are and my top 9 network marketing tips!

What is Network Marketing? 

Starting an online business from home has been made easier than ever before with many different network marketing opportunities available.  

Network marketing is a business model that relies on direct sales person-to-person by independent representatives, who can do this from home or anywhere in the world — who doesn’t want to work on a beach sipping cocktails?!

Often a network marketing business will require you to build a network of business partners or salespeople who also sell products.

Ok, so at this point you’re probably going “Oi, hang on, isn’t network marketing a pyramid scheme? 

This is usually the first thing that many people ask regardless of what they really know about network marketing themselves. 

With that said, there are loads of reputable network marketing companies out there and it’s important to do your research first to make sure that you are in fact buying into a legitimate business model and not a pyramid scheme

A good example of a pyramid scheme is the notorious Ponzi scheme, these businesses are illegal (super dodgy) and don’t usually involve the selling of products. 

Instead, the participants’ source of income will depend solely or predominantly on recruiting others to join. 

The person at the top will make all the money and if there are sales of products or services, this will have little or no impact on the earnings.

Network marketing is actually an upside down pyramid wherein everyone starts at the bottom, but they can all get to the top!

How Network Marketing Works?

Network marketing can be referred to as a variety of names, such as:

  • Multilevel marketing
  • Cellular marketing
  • Affiliate marketing
  • Consumer-direct marketing
  • Referral marketing
  • Home-based business franchising.

Irrespective of the names it’s given, network marketing is ultimately a business model that depends on a network of distributors in order to grow a business.

According to Investopedia, “companies that follow the network marketing model often create tiers of salespeople—that is, salespeople are encouraged to recruit their own networks of salespeople.” 

“The creators of a new tier (or “upline”) earn commission on their own sales and on sales made by the people in the tier they created (the “downline”). In time, a new tier can sprout yet another tier, which contributes more commission to the person in the top tier as well as the middle tier.”

Therefore, your earnings within the business will depend on recruitment as well as product sales.

Best Network Marketing Opportunities 

There are a couple of different opportunities within a network marketing business.

According to The Balance Small Business, this business model “typically involves using three basic types of systematic strategies to make money: lead generation, recruiting, and building and management.” 

Types of network marketing opportunities can include single-tier, two-tier, and multi-level.

Single-Tier Network Marketing

Single-tier network marketing is pretty simple and only requires you to sign up for a company’s affiliate program to sell their products or services. 

There is no recruiting of other distributors, and all of your pay comes from direct sales. The widely-recognised beauty company, Avon is an example of a single-tier network marketing company — before they became a multilevel marketing company.

How it often works with online affiliate programs is you get paid for the traffic you drive to the affiliate’s website. Pay-per-click (PPC) and pay-per-lead (PPL) affiliate programs are additional examples of this model. 

Two-Tier Network Marketing

Two-tier network marketing requires some level of recruiting, but your profits aren’t solely dependent on it. 

The Balance Small Business explains, “you can get paid for direct sales (or traffic you drive to a website) and for direct sales or referred traffic made by affiliates or distributors you recruit to work under you.” 

Ken Envoy’s Site Sell is a good example of a two-tier network marketing model. 

Multi-Level Marketing

Multi-Level Marketing (MLM) is a distribution-based marketing network that contains two or more tiers within the business model. 

MLM businesses are essentially a form of direct sales home business in which independent representatives sell products or services from a company to an end consumer. 

How the multi-level aspect of this works is that each representative or agent who is able to recruit and train other representatives to start their own business can earn a commission on their reps’ sales.

Income and profits earned in this model come from the commission earned on personal sales, as well as a percentage of the sales earned by other reps recruited by you.

There are some MLM programs that allow you to make money five or more tiers deep, which may result in potential incentives and bonuses for recruiting.

Some examples of MLM businesses include Amway and the company I’m a part of, Forever Living.

I found huge success with starting an online business with network marketing, the MLM business model worked incredibly well for me and I’ve been building a successful global business for the last 14 years while I was a single mum — it’s given me more than I could have ever imagined.

But, not all network marketing companies are made equal…

There are a couple of questions to consider when answering “What is the best network marketing company?”:

  • Has the company been around for at least 5 years and what is the track record of the company’s founders?
  • Is the company well-capitalized? 
  • Is the company a member of the Direct Selling Association?
  • How is the business being pitched to you? Is the focus on making money by selling products or by recruiting others?
  • Does it come across as being a get-rich-quick scenario or are they honest about the work you’ll have to put in, in order to make profits? 
  • Does the company offer products or services that are unique?
  • Is there a genuine need for the product or service?
  • Is the product or service trendy or a fad?
  • Do you personally feel excited about the products, like they are something you would actually use?
  • Do you think people you know would be enthusiastic about the products or would they call you a nutter?
  • Can you generate immediate income or do you first have to invest thousands before you can only make money months down the line? 
  • Does the marketing system take full advantage of technology? 
  • Is the person who is introducing you to the business opportunity committed to your success? 
  • Can you build the business part-time while you still earn your full time income?
  • Is this a business you can enjoy working in and have fun with (let’s be honest, this is important)?

This is your driving force and motivating factor for making something happen, otherwise you won’t be bothered to get it done.

2. Get Clear On What Need Your Product Or Service Is Fulfilling

It’s important to identify the need or want that your product or service can fulfill. 

For example, by someone joining your network marketing business you can help them address a need for additional finances. 

Maybe the health and wellness products you sell can help people with their aspirations to stay healthy and look after themselves. 

This is going to help you hone in on the reasoning behind everything you do and how it can impact others’ lives.

3. Identify Your Target Market

Your target audience are the people most likely to have the above need or want. 

A ‘spray and pray’ approach where you sell to everyone is not going to work, period. 

As an example, my target audience are mums that are either stay-at-home or full time employed who are looking to make an extra income and have more time with their family.

4. Decide On A Goal 

Now that you have determined your why and you have your big dream outlined, it’s time to set some short and long term business goals that will help you reach your dream. 

This is something your upline or sponsor (the person you signed up with) can help give you guidance on.

5. Be Genuine And Ethical

Out of all the network marketing tips I have to share, this is possibly the one that makes or breaks most careers in the space.

If you can show up with integrity in everything you do, be genuine and be ethical and people will trust you! 

For many years direct selling and network marketing has received a bad reputation due to reps who have used hype — and oftentimes deception — in order to get new recruits to sign on

It’s from this behaviour that many people are led to believe that MLM companies themselves encourage this behavior when in all honesty, they simply don’t!

Legitimate MLM companies like Forever Living expect you to be honest in how you deal with customers and potential recruits. 

If you truly believe in a product and the benefit it can bring to a person, your genuine enthusiasm and the quality of the product will be enough to promote it.  

Avoid making any over-the-top or exaggerated or false claims and just be authentic and true to yourself!

6. Don’t Pester Your Friends and Family

The absolute last thing you want to do is piss off (excuse my terrible French) any family or friends and have them call you crazy because you won’t leave them alone. 

There’s nothing wrong in sharing with them what you’re doing, but if they’re not interested, then take “no” as “no” and move the hell on. 

These can often be the people who are initially very skeptical, but once they see your success they can be more open to the opportunity. 

The proof is all in the pudding!

7. Sponsor, Don’t Recruit

One of the great advantages of building an MLM business is the potential to bring in new business builders and profit from the sales they make in their business.

Now you may be thinking, “isn’t that using others you selfish sod?” 

While it may seem like this, in reality you’re being rewarded for helping others succeed.

But in order for them for them to truly succeed, you have to take your role as being a trainer and leader seriously, not just rack up as many recruits as possible — quality over quantity!

The focus should always be on the success of those you help in the business, not solely on you.

8. Learn How To Market And Create An Action Plan & Strategy 

The best leads will always be the ones you find yourself and who are genuinely interested in your product or service. 

If you’ve ever wondered how to market your network marketing business, here’s a couple of ideas (that can be seen as a bunch of extra network marketing tips) below of where you can get started network marketing online and in person. 

  • Create a website: 

Take a look at the policies of the company you’re working with to see what they allow regarding websites. I have my own website as Forever Living allows us to do that, which is really helpful. 

  • Build an email list: 

The first step is creating awareness and getting people to take an interest in what you have — by visiting your website, for example. 

Next is to get those leads to subscribe to your email list. You can do this by getting them to sign up by offering them something for free — like what I’m offering you below:

  • Write articles or blogs:

You could either write content related to what you’re offering for other websites or for your own if you have one or are planning on creating one. 

Don’t just write with a hard sell, the purpose is to offer your audience golden nuggets of information that can help or benefit them from reading it.

  • Network marketing on social media:

Just posting about what you’re offering may not garner much results from social media. 

You will have to be a bit more creative and strategic to your approach. 

An example would be, if you are selling wellness products that help you lose weight, share before and after images that show results, or create videos that depict how you use a certain wellness product in the kitchen when you’re cooking.

  • Develop a referral program:

You will find that many people you initially talk to won’t be interested in buying right away, but they may know people who would be keen on what you’re selling. 

Happy customers may want to share your product or business, so a great way to leverage this is by creating some sort of referral program which can give people incentive to refer others to you. 

  • Go to events or create your own and network: 

Get out there and meet people at any different networking events that are happening in your area. 

Another option is to host your own events, like a pamper and Prosecco evening where you invite people and ask them to bring a friend with them. 

This is a great way to meet new people and who doesn’t love networking with some wine?!

9. Stand Out from Other Distributors

A challenging aspect of starting an online business in network marketing can be convincing prospects to buy or join with you as opposed to the other reps they may know… 

How to be successful in network marketing? Well, you’re all selling the same stuff at the end of the day, so it’s incredibly important to differentiate yourself within the market. 

Ultimately people will gravitate towards you for your “uniqueness” and if they feel they will get something more with you. 

You want to give people a reason to choose you over any other reps.

Work Life Balance: How To Manage Life As A Full-Time Working Mum


Maintaining a work life balance as a full-time working mum is no easy feat. 

Being a mum on its own is already a full-time position, throw in a career and you’re likely to feel rather shattered most days. 

As much as you want to sew Olivia’s school play outfit, attend Harry’s football match, make supper, do the groceries, clean the house and prepare for that work presentation on Friday — maybe it’s time to recognise that it doesn’t all have to get done by you and that you can also have your own life. 

In this article we’re going to explore what work life balance means, why this is so important, my top tips for making life truly smashing and the kind of work that’s made this easier for me.

With that said, let’s jump right in.

So, What’s Work Life Balance Really? 

You are probably having a laugh and thinking “work life balance doesn’t even exist in my vocab,” and that’s okay, I felt this too for a very long time as a single mum. 

There’s this idea that us working mums are real-life superwomen with the ability to multi-task with our eyes closed, and well, as much as that is true at times, we are not impervious to burnout — we are only human (as we often forget ourselves).

That doesn’t mean life is always going to be perfect, it just means that you’ll be in a better place to manage everything and not feel utterly knackered at the end of the week. 

In the age of social media, there’s this pressure to be perfect because of what we’re seeing other mums do and manage, but most of the time that’s just a highlight reel of the good stuff, never mind the highs and lows of getting there. 

Being perfect is not attainable, but health, joy, happiness, fulfilled relationships and balance are — you can have your cake and eat it too, you just have to be conscious about it.

Now that you know what work life balance is, it’s necessary to truly understand why it’s important for you. 

Maintaining a work life balance is crucial for your personal health and relationships and for your performance within work. 

If you feel like I’m talking bollocks, take a look at these top 5 reasons below. 

1. Fewer Health Problems 

We all know that our immune system is the first to be compromised when we are run down, tired, stressed or anxious. 

Healthline explains that “constant stress can cause a variety of symptoms and affect your overall well-being,” from the flu to more serious health concerns such as respiratory or digestive problems.

And not to mention your mental health…It’s very easy to slip into the slumps of depression when life becomes overwhelming and unmanageable. 

According to Help Guide, “burnouts occur when you feel overwhelmed, emotionally drained, and unable to meet constant demands.”

Burnouts can be caused by extreme and prolonged stress that results in a state of emotional, physical, and mental exhaustion — often to the point of hospitalisation. 

This is just how serious it can get if you are taking on way too much without any room to breathe.

Stress is not always something we can get away from, but it’s definitely something we can manage. 

The fact that it can have such a direct impact on your health and wellbeing is important to realise and this is why maintaining a balanced work life is vital. 

Taking the time to look after yourself by exercising, eating well, relaxing and doing things for yourself can contribute to increased happiness, limited health issues, more efficiency in your work and inspiration to show up as the best mum. 

2. To Ensure Physical Health and Wellbeing 

This ties into the above point, but it’s so important that we’ll also give it it’s own line. 

It’s imperative that you make time to look after your physical health and wellbeing. Your body is a temple and how you treat it matters!

So take a look at whether you are eating enough or eating too much and how you are fuelling your body throughout the day — be mindful of what you are putting inside. 

Are you exercising regularly or is this something you push to the back burner because there’s just not enough time or you’re way too knackered. 

Eating well and exercising will greatly affect your energy levels throughout the day and it will influence your mental state. 

We store a lot of stagnant energy within our body and by just moving in any way at all we can shift this energy and shift how we feel.

3. Increase Productivity 

It’s all about quality over quantity. If you are burning the candle at both ends, your quality of work or how you show up for your kids will speak volumes. 

By having a work life balance you’ll be able to increase your productivity because you would have been able to give yourself a chance to rest or do something for yourself so now you can dutifully focus on the task at hand.

4. More Mindfulness, Gratitude and Appreciation In Your Every Day

By maintaining a work life balance you automatically invite more mindfulness, gratitude and appreciation into your every day. 

Fancy a cuppa? Go and have that chin wag with your mate. It will likely mean you will be more present and attentive to your family if you feel like you’ve had that downtime. 

When you have a balance of doing things you enjoy with the responsibilities of everyday life you will find that appreciation and gratitude are easier to come by and these are emotions that make us feel good, thus attending to our mental well-being.

Yes, I said it, “YOLO”! This may be a cringe-y Millenial term, but it couldn’t be more true!

If you feel that everything you do has to perfect all the time, stop this now. 

Doing something “perfectly” is completely subjective, who does it need to be perfect for, yourself or someone else? 

This is an unrealistic expectation to have on yourself and it will only result in unnecessary pressure that will make you feel miserable. 

And if I have to choose I’d rather toss being miserable to the side. 

2. Unplug And Disconnect

Whether you’re employed or have your own business it’s extremely important to know when to unplug and disconnect from technology. 

We live in a world where it’s become increasingly difficult to ‘switch off’ because of how easy technology has made it for us to constantly be communicating and working. 

So when it’s family time or when you’re with a partner or mate, make sure to honour that time together and not get caught up in answering emails that can most often than not, wait!

3. Work The Body And Mind 

Getting regular exercise, eating well and meditating will look after your physical and mental health, and if this area of your life is not well taken care of it can lead to less than favourable circumstances. 

It will also manage your stress and anxiety levels and make you feel energetic, inspired and motivated! 

Need I say more. 

4. Limit Distractions And Timewasters 

It’s so easy to procrastinate or find yourself checking your phone or social media every 10 minutes, that’s why you have to be disciplined with how you spend your time. 

Set time limits for checking and responding to emails or making phone calls, and honour it. 

Make sure you focus on one thing at a time so as to not get caught up in the next task without finishing what you had first started. 

Take scheduled breaks and use that time for catching up on personal messages or checking social media.

5. Work Smarter, Not Harder

Manage your time for the long term by creating a timeline of your activities. Look up the best apps or computer programs can help with this, or customise your own Excel spreadsheet if need be!

Include family and personal commitments – such as holidays, birthday parties, self-care spa days etc. – so you don’t forget that you are unavailable for work on those days. 

Use technology to make your life easier, if it’s not 100% necessary to have that meeting in person then do it over Zoom or any other conference call program. 

Make the mornings easier by preparing everything the night before, whether this is lunch for the kids, outfit for the next day etc.

Do any grocery shopping online if you can, technology is here to help make our lives easier, ensure you make the most of it.

6. Learn To Say NO

This was a game-changer for me — learning that I don’t have to please everyone has been so liberating. 

Saying “no” does not mean you’re being selfish, on the contrary — it means you respect your own time and the commitments you’ve already made. 

7. Leave Work At Work

When you leave work for the day make sure you don’t bring work home with you. This may be more tricky if you work for yourself (or if you work from home), but it’s all about boundaries and it’s essential to have some in place. 

Sometimes you’ve just got to say “sod it” and allocate your tasks to the next day.

8. Ask For Help And Support 

Family, friends, neighbours, colleagues — don’t be a martyr and do everything yourself because you don’t want to inconvenience others.  

Use your network for help and support when needed. 

People love to help people, it’s part of our human connection and if someone doesn’t want to help, that’s ok too. 

You can feel miffed and then move on.

9. Surround Yourself With People Who Are Uplifting 

No one enjoys a Debbie downer, so be mindful of who you are spending time with and notice how your energy levels feel after being around someone. 

This is not to say that people shouldn’t complain or have negative tendencies, it’s about how much. 

It’s okay to have a bad day and vent, but if it becomes a habit then that’s a red flag.  

Same goes for you, you want to feel uplifted.

10. Schedule Play Dates

Scheduling playdates for your kiddies (if you have young ones) can be a great way to get out and connect with other parents or friends — 2 birds, one stone — it will benefit both you and your little one/s.

Like anything in life, too much of something can only cause chaos. 

So to avoid making a muck up of things, don’t overload your schedule because you feel you ‘have’ to. 

This is sound advice this is. 

12. Schedule ‘Me’ Time

This is probably one of the most vital tips here. 

If you don’t take time to full up your own cup there is no way you will be able to be on your top performance day to day. 

Schedule that mani or massage, take yourself shopping or go for that walk in nature — you’ll thank both me and yourself for this later. 

13. Focus On The Big Picture

Think about the bigger picture, what do you want from life, for yourself firstly and for your family?

Feeling stressed out and totally buggered every day is not a way to live, so make the choices you have to make in order to create the life you want to live. 

I know it sounds a lot simpler said than done, but ultimately if you want something to change enough you’ll do what it takes — that means prioritising a work life balance.

14. Create Special Family Activities 

Making time for your family is vital, both during the week and on the weekends, to nurture your family dynamic and allow everyone to bond.

Spending quality time with your family is the ultimate work life balance. Take time to plan ahead and put these dates in your calendar so no one will forget — now is the best time to plan for your dreams as a family!

Go to the beach, picnic in the forest, go away for the weekend or maybe even schedule that family holiday you’ve been putting off – remember that time with your family is precious so make the most of it!

If you’re pressed for time, have a family breakfast/dinner or watch a movie. When it’s family time, avoid talking about work or checking your phone. 

Instead, give 100% of your focus on your kids’ interests. 

With older kids, ask them to be involved in choosing an activity to do together so you can also meet their needs. At the end of the day, it’s not about what you do, but rather that you’re doing it together.

15. Be Present 

This goes for whatever you’re doing in your day, be it work, a school function, cooking, chores etc. — make the most of the moment, and be there consciously doing what you’re doing. 

This takes practise, but you will find yourself feeling a whole lot happier when you’re present with every task. 

16. Find Quality Childcare

When you feel like you’re juggling a ton, one of the best things you can do to make your load a little lighter is by finding quality childcare

This doesn’t mean they need to replace you and your responsibilities as a parent, but rather make your life easier by being there to keep the kiddies entertained in the afternoon or babysit in the evening so you can actually have a night off. 

17. Communicate With Your Employer 

If you’re looking for more flexible time or to be able to work from home a few days a week (assuming things go back to normal soon enough), I suggest talking to your boss or HR representative and asking them if they would be open to new arrangements.

You’ll never know what they’ll say until you just take the plunge and ask, but make sure you go in prepared — have an outline of exactly what you want and be prepared to present alternative solutions, such as a trial period of your projected work schedule so you can show how the arrangement won’t restrict productivity.

18. Spend Time With Your Partner Or Friends

Carve out time to spend with your partner and if you don’t have a partner make time to date or see friends. 

It can be so easy to get caught up in life and let one of the most important people in your life fall to the wayside, but this is one of the biggest mistakes you can make. 

Take time to nurture this relationship — start with monthly date nights to get closer, feel renewed, and enjoy each other’s company. 

By fostering this relationship you will bring excitement to the partnership and it’s perfect for helping you “check-in” with each other.
